The Great Khorvaire Expedition

A little bit of this, kick a little ass

__Bashing their way past the many skeletons on their way, the party reached the base level of the fort. Seeing the skeletal wyvern with the glowing tail, they threw Large at it while Credo tried to get to the haft stuck in the ground. Large became pierced on the tail but also smashed the remnants of Dusheval’s reanimated corpse into the draconic calcium deposit he was compelled to ride on. Before the shovel that was revealed from Credo pulling the haft out of the phylactery could be used, the party demolished the undead. The desecrated ground was cleansed by the shovel, and wounds were healed using its power.
__Moving on, the party left its new home-base and traveled east to the strange lake. With the use of water-walking rings and the licking of stones, they entered the complex beneath the central island’s tree. Once inside, they snuck about trying to attract as little harpy attention. Following the footprints left over, they found the nest of the wandering Bullette which held a magical artifact causing the magical mutation of beasts inside.
__After running as hard as they could from the enraged beast, they escaped up the ramps and left the complex only to use their resources to make an entrance through the glass walls. The forthcoming deluge of water left nothing alive inside. And there was much rejoicing.
__Returning to town, a messenger came to them with an invitation to the Dragon’s Claw. They traveled to Korth and met Trod, the underboss of Tram the leader of the Dragon’s Claw. They broke into a house owned by the north, killed strategists, and stole plans. Trod wants the group to meet Tarim in his bar and give him a message for Beck, leader of the North.

A prelude to the bonerdagon

The party continued down the Fort, plowing through doors, smashing bones, and solving self-contradicting tricky doors. After a series of odd instances, with the wizard going unconscious, they pressed onward paying no heed to anything pitiful things like skeletal minotaurs, trolls, or ogres. As they progress deeper, the skeletal warriors became better armed and skillful, though the abilities of the warriors surpassed simple statistical relevance.
Hearing the sounds of many bones below them, they progress that much closer to their prize or death.

Why would a druid prep healing spells?

__After returning to Vedykar, the Party had Large reincarnated as a troglodite and found a Druid named Zaira. After spending the money the got from selling the booty in town (you know what I mean), they returned to the second basement level despite Large being unconscious. After clobbering a slew of skeletons, the waited for Large to regain consciousness and used the doorway to their benefit. Running immediately into the next room, the group was confronted by two zombie Minotaurs. With much slashing, a few close calls, a near dead Large, and a cleric-druid healing combo (and no more healing spells), they camped the night to recover spells and health. They await the next floor pursuing the treasure deep inside, waking up to find that Den has disappeared.

It Tolls For Thee

__The party traveled to Fort Bones, though Den stayed behind. Sneaking close enough, they turn-bombed the undead archers through the arrow-slits in the walls. After entering and clearing the first floor, they ran upstairs and continued to bash the undead into a fine powder. Using the benefits of a large sized Large, the group was unstoppable and crushed all in their path. On the second day, they progressed down to the first basement level of the fort. After punishing skeletons in the bottom of a pit, they crushed more skeletons and a few wolves.
__Once turning a corner, they saw two zombified Ogres that ran and began smacking with enormous strength. After valiantly slashing one down, Yirui was hit for the second time and was crushed to the floor by the enormous club. Raging, Large attacked all the more fiercely to save his compatriots, but sadly suffered the same fate. Using the wonders of magic while Avega was unconscious, Credo and Lucius felled the final zombie before gathering up the party, bodies, and goods to return to Vulyar. The party laid Yirui to rest and sought a druid to raise Large from the dead to revenge himself on the lifeless dealers of death.

Money Earned, Something Ventured

__After gathering Duran from Irontown to guarantee the payment upon entrance to Korth, the party traveled an uneventful path, using both wagons to keep the less presentable party members from scaring Duran from helping. While in Korth, the party got paid and executed Solace. While in the mayors residence, they found the adventurer’s bulletin board which had, among other missions, the warrant with the braggers sheets still attatched for the clearance of Fort Bones.
__Large and Ave went into the city to find the Dragon’s Claw gang to try to join them. They were told that they’d have to prove themselves in a battle. After finding out about when and where, they grouped up and prepared for tomorrows turf war. Since the slaughter didn’t impress the gang much, they were not made members just yet. Further work with the Dragon’s Claw may be in store.
__Now on the road, they head south to return a wagon and make their deathly enterprise.

Fort Bones Tales

__The great cleric of Pelor Duscheval fought a holy war against the lich Valoren. In the war, Valoren overtook the fort and transformed all within into his undead minions by wielding the power of the full moon. Deep within, a great wyvern defended his solid gold phylactery.
__After learning of the phylactery’s location from Pelor, Duscheval forced his way passed the defenses and pierced into the depths of the fort. Upon reaching the bottom floor exhausted, Duscheval fought Valoren and his wyvern. His weapon sundered, Duscheval grabbed the nearest object he could find and imbued his might and good into it, weakening himself near death but forging death’s anathema.
__With Valoren’s form crumbling to the floor in front of him, Duscheval thrust his weapon through the phylactery. The gold parted with quicksilver oozing from the opening, and its liquid contents poured to the ground. Just as victory was achieved, the wyvern’s stinger plunged through Duscheval’s chest, and he fell dead before he could cleanse the fort. As the mercury spilled to the ground, Valoren’s hope of eternal life seeped away, but the great evil within cursed the ground to yield undeath.
__The dead poured from the fort until the remaining clerics of Pelor were able to ward the area. All know Duscheval’s mission is not yet over and that his weapon is still on the ground near the phylactery awaiting the final strike.

Finding Solace

__After gathering the gold found in the holes and holds of the tribute traders, the party moved on to Lakeside, the home of Yirui. After finding out about the recent provisions and bodyguard purchased in town, the party spent the night preparing to set out towards the Dwarven city in the mountains. On approach to the mountains through the northern pass, Avega noticed a moving shape in the rock above them. As they made the last turn to the mountain’s entrance, the party was set upon by a group of bugbears and goblins. After many a javelin pierced the party, the bugbears approached for close combat, which ended fatally. After having shot, pierced, cut, and sat on the enemy, the party pushed in the mountain in pursuit of their evil quarry.

__Once entering the cave, they came to a turn in the path with a large stone plate blocking a straight path. With dwarven markings inscribed, Lucius deciphered the foreign language. After some conversing the door opened and the party chose the quicker path through the mountain. After two days of riding, they came to the city when night should have been falling. After inquiring with the guards and civilians, they assessed the Solace and Morrin had not yet arrived. They set out in the morning to set a trap for the other wagon.

__Despite the horses not hitting any of the caltrops placed for them, Devin and a horse were sent to sleep while a battle with the party and Solace and Morrin continued. With Morrin bleeding and Solace stable, they commandeered the wagon and horses and traveled back the Lakeside where they dropped Devin back in town. The group now stands outside of Irontown deliberating about how to best gain their rewards.

Linguistic Correction

{(EDIT) You are free to read my posting. This was written before any further searches (like one more). It appears that this claim is a fringe belief that doesn’t take much of the evidence into account. The Guardian article later on pretty much sums up the matter. I’m more convinced by the idea that ancients only reading aloud is a misinterpretation. I apologize for furthering this bunk. It was a passing comment in a Theology class. meh.

__I just got done researching the theory that reading silently was a novel idea. My dating was incorrect. The earliest instance of this was around 400 A.D. with St. Augustine talking about watching his friend read silently. For one, the theory is pretty cool, but I’ve not done much searching into the overall acceptance of it.

__Anyway, this makes my point moot about not being able to read silently. I will assume that anyone that started the campaign with literacy (not Large) will be able to read silently. This is not to say that spell can be whispered or silently spoken without the silent spell being involved, not that there is any previous instance that I am talking about.

__I just wanted to clarify my previous comment. If you’re interested in reading a little about it. Here is a link that might be useful. I cannot speak of its validity though. Take it with a grain of salt. (this is possibly a section of the dissertation of a student) (an article from the guardian contradicting this theory)

Session 1: Seeking Solace

__Finding themselves in Korth, the party meets each other outside of the mayor’s manor after receiving an assignment to restore taxation from Irontown. While outside, they noticed a steady flow of golden items falling from an open window. Solace slid down from the window into the wagon.

__The party chased the cart running out of town. With arrows and bolts flying forth, the thieves sustained some damage. After a very close encounter, Avega was thrown from the wagon to bleed, and the party delayed the chase.

__Taking advantage of the presence of a wagon, a cleric, and the similar direction that both of their goals pointed, they followed the road to Irontown (not before ensuring reward for returning the gold).

__After seven days riding and a late-night assault from bugbears, the party arrived in Irontown and quickly found Tom, the man in charge of tribute. After questioning the now-pale-faced Tom, the split up and had a member follow Tom about to know his possible plans. After following Tom’s companions from the tavern, a weapons cache was found and the stores of money were located. All that was left was to catch the culprits in the act.

__Using Yirei’s information from the night before, the party (short of Credo and Lucius), waited at the expected location for the ambush. Grass and blood flew in the weedy locale, leaving six sleeping bandits. After interrogation, Den and Large uncovered the basic scheme of selling the tribute to another town and keeping the gold in the town itself. In the conclusion, the remaining bandits were beheaded.

__During the night, the gold was gathered and stored into the wagon. The party learned of Solace’s recent movement to the North, where they expect to pursue their quarry.
